Who Is Super
Bell"Z?
Japanese
trains
are very kind. They always arrive on time and tell you all the
information
and little details you need to know.
For
example:
•
“The train
is arriving in the station, please stand before the line of the
platform.
Please do not stand close to the edge.”
•
“Please try
to save seats for elderly and disabled persons.”
•
“While you
are in the train, please turn off your cellular phone. Be considerate
to
the other passengers.”
• “The
next
station is Shinjuku. If you need to change to the subways, or other
commercial
trains, please get off here.”
•
“Please do
not forget your belongings or umbrella.”
If
you are not
amazed by the kindness of these graceful announcements, then you will
be
seduced by the conductor’s voice—which is so amazingly soft and tender
it makes you feel like you’re in dream.…
Anyway,
here
is a CD created by a DJ group called Super Bell Z. They make techno
sounds
by sampling the sweet, soft announcements of train-station conductors.
A few
years
back, Densha De Go! became a mega-hit video game in Japan. The object
of
the game wasn’t to kill bad guys. Instead, it was a battle to see how
kindly
and gently you could control a commuter train. Don’t shake it, stop at
a certain spot in the station smoothly, make the proper announcements,
etc.
Under
the influence
of this phenomena (maybe?), Super Bell"Z’s first album Motor Man became
a hit in Japan. You can experience the sweet feeling of the cruisin’
train
in Japan by listening to this CD. -J. Tack
